Help your people improve their behaviour by nudging them with the right message, at the right time

What do nudges look like?

With the CybSafe nudge & alerts capability, admins can send a nudge by email and browser notification from a list of pre-created options. Developed using the CybSafe nudge framework, these nudges are compatible with all browsers, including Google Chrome, Safari, Edge and Firefox. Check out the images below to see them in action.

Figures 1, 2, and 3 show how a nudge email and browser notification looks to your people. End users can immediately act on the nudge by clicking on the call-to-action, which links to the CybSafe platform.

How to send a nudge

Step 1: Navigate to the ‘Create nudge’ page to work through this step-by-step guide.

Step 2: Select ‘CybSafe nudge’.

Note: if you wish to send a 'Custom nudge' skip to step 2a (Custom nudge).

Step 2a (Custom nudge): Select ‘Custom nudges’ and fill in the fields with your desired content.

Step 2b (Custom nudge): If you wish to add languages other than English, select ‘Add another language’. You will be required to type the text in the desired language.

Step 2c (Custom nudge): Return to and complete steps 4, 5, and 6 to finish the process. Create your nudge!

Step 3: Optionally give your nudge campaign a name. Then choose the nudge you wish to send from a pre-created list put together by our Science and Research team.

Choose the nudge based on influence technique using the key provided. You can choose from (C) = Compare, (E) = Emotion, (R) = Risk or (S) = Social. More info on nudge science here.

Step 4: Now, set your rules. With rules, you can send nudges to only those who need them. Rules are based on the following criteria:

  • Behaviour score

  • Groups

  • Course progress

  • Email

  • Goal completion/progress

  • Last login

  • Module completion

  • Pending refresher test

  • Phishing reported %

  • Risk score

You have the option of adding as many rules in combination with each other. You can also choose whether you want the nudge to go to users who match all of the rules or only one of them. You will see how many estimated users will receive your nudge.

Step 5: Choose when you’d like the nudge to go out. Now or later? You can schedule a specific date and time.

You can also select whether you want the nudge to be sent repeatedly. There are various options for this including, daily, weekly every weekday, or a custom frequency of your choosing.

Next, select the method of delivery for your nudge. Your nudge will always be sent out via email, but you can choose to send it out via browser notifications, Microsoft Teams, or Slack as well.

Step 6: Check your nudge is exactly how you want it to be. Once you’re happy with the nudge setup, you’re ready to go! Hit ‘Create’’ and watch change unfold.


Creating an automated nudge

CybSafe also has the ability to send out a nudge when a specific behaviour event happens for a user, ensuring they get a nudge just when they need it.

Step 1: To set up an automation, come to the Create Nudge page and select Trigger automation.

Step 2: Select the behaviour event trigger you want to send out nudges. Currently CybSafe can send out a positive reinforcement nudge when a user reports a phishing email, however there will have many more behaviour triggers being released soon.

Step 3: Click Next and review the nudge automation. You will see the content you will be sending in the nudge and what the behaviour trigger is. Click Create and your automated nudge will be set live.

You will see your automated nudge in your nudge report. Automated nudges that are live will have the status "Active", meaning they will send nudges when the chosen event occurs.

Automated nudges can be canceled by selecting the three dots next to active and selecting "Cancel".


Understanding nudge reports

Created: The time and date you made the nudge.

Sent date: The time and date you've scheduled the nudge to go out to your people.

Title: 'Header' of the web-push notification and 'subject' of the email.

Content: The body of text for both the web push notification and email.

Sent by: The person who has sent out the nudge.

Targeted recipients: The number of people subscribed to web-push notifications. This is for those included at the time of processing the nudge.

Status: What’s happening to your nudge request? It could be:

  • Pending: You’ve made your nudge request, but you’re still waiting for your nudge to be processed. This is the first status you'll see.

  • Ended: Success! We’ve approved your request and sent your nudge. This doesn't mean people have received the nudge yet (it could be scheduled for a time or date in the future).

  • Error: Whoops! Something has gone wrong in creation. This status doesn’t show errors in delivery.

  • Cancelled: When you’ve stopped a nudge from going out to your people. Web-push notifications and emails will not be sent.

  • Archived: When you're done with your campaign and don't need it any more, you can choose to archive it to hide it from your list.
