Overview
The Group management via CSV feature allows you to efficiently manage group memberships by uploading and processing CSV files, whether you’re adding new members, replacing existing ones, or streamlining large group updates.
How to Use the CSV Upload Feature
Accessing the feature
Navigate to the People > Group management area in the platform.
Click on the group name to go to that group’s management page.
If applicable then navigate to the relevant subgroup via the Subgroups tab.
Click on the CSV import section.
Adding people to a group
All people referenced in the CSV import will be added to the group. If someone is already in the group then they will remain in the group. The way to reference people is by their email address.
Prepare your CSV file:
Ensure the file contains only one column with the header
Email
.Populate the column with the email addresses of active users in your organization you want to add to the group.
Click Add users.
Select the CSV file you prepared.
Review the summary of the upload:
The system will validate the email addresses.
Any invalid or inactive users will be flagged, and you can download a report of these errors.
Confirm the upload to add the users to the group.
Replacing people in a group
This action replaces all people in the group with those referenced in the imported CSV. Use this action to refresh the group with the latest group members.
If you have a list of email addresses already prepared then skip to step 3.
Download the current list of group members by clicking the Current group members button
Update the CSV:
Remove users you want to take out of the group.
Add new users by including their email addresses.
Click Replace users.
Select the CSV file you prepared.
Review the summary of the upload:
The system will validate the email addresses.
Any invalid or inactive users will be flagged, and you can download a report of these errors.
Confirm the upload to add the users to the group.
Removing everyone from a group
Create a new CSV file with only the
Email
header or by clicking Blank template.Click Replace Users
Select and upload the blank file.
Confirm the upload to remove all members from the group.
Error handling
If an upload fails or is partially successful:
A failure report CSV will be available for download in the Import History section.
The report will detail:
Which email addresses were rejected.
The reasons for the rejection (e.g., inactive users, invalid email addresses).
Correct the errors in your original file and re-upload the CSV.
Tips for best results
Double check you are on the correct group page before making changes.
Ensure email addresses in the CSV file are for active users within your organization.
Review failure reports after each upload to address any issues promptly.
Any automated changes (e.g. workflow triggers, campaign enrolment) may take up to 24 hours to process.
